Typical application for these organic coated steel sheets is within automotive applications. Forming and subsequent alkaline degreasing makes high demands on the primer, so that some of the coating can flake off. Characterizing adhesion behavior is the theme of this test procedure.

Evaluation of corrosion protection primers suitable for welding in the automotive industry - Part 7: Method for the quantitative determination of dusts during resistance spot welding Publication: September 2008 Welding generates fumes and gases that can be harmful to health and that must be controlled within limits laid down in regulations. To assess the risks to health arising from such activities it is necessary to acquire knowledge of the quantity and composition of the fumes and gases emitted. This standard specifies a procedure by means of which information on the kind and quantity of fumes can be obtained that are generated in resistance spot welding of steel sheets coated with corrosion protection primers. This standard does not cancel existing methods for the determination of welding fumes which comply with currently available national or international standards and regulations, provided the purpose of technical requirements are met and the specified use, its capacity and the equipment by which this is obtained do not change. If for contract reasons reference is made to this control sheet, all questions related to the requirement and execution of resistance spot welding should be agreed between the contracting parties at the time of enquiry or during contract negotiations. It is presumed that the execution of the instructions is made by sufficiently trained and experienced persons who are familiar with this standard.
