SEW 550 Steels for larger forgings - Quality specifications, 4th edition, December 2024 SEW 550 deals with steels primarily for general mechanical engineering, which are used for the production of larger open-die forged components in the quenched and tempered or normalised condition. (SEW 555 applies to energy technology). The first edition of SEW 550 was published in 1951, followed by editions in 1957 and 1976, after which ISO 683-2 and DIN EN 10250 (1999) were developed, which differ from SEW 550 in terms of material grades and material properties. The wall thickness range extends from 160 to 750 (1000) mm. SEW 550 specifies the chemical composition, sampling, mechanical properties (in the sample layers L, T and Q) as well as testing and documentation. Appendix A contains formulae for calculating the relevant heat treatment diameters. New in SEW 550 is the criterion for through-hardenability. Compared to the 3rd edition in 1976, 7 materials have been added and 2 deleted. This SEW is available for the first time in English translation. Edition: December 2024
